Waikato artist Di Tocker discovered glass at an early age, and went on to gain a BFA in Glass from RMIT in Melbourne. She was selected for the prestigious Australasian Ranamok Glass Prize in 2011 and her work is held in private collections in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Di Tocker’s incredible glass works appear to defy glass itself. Almost ice-like in composition and palette, they have an alluring appeal as light bounces through their beautifully polished curves and purposefully rough-cast ends that present a delightful juxtaposition.
In Submerge – Ice Flow, Di’s enchanting glass work conjures a rich blue Antarctic scene of ice flowing and submerging. In Snowfall in Early Spring, a descending snowfall cascades down this indelible sculpture, melting away in spring time told in the language of glass. Arbelos 2 is a complex and refined form such as a geometric arbelos in glass is truly a feat of material, skill and composition. In Arc2, Di’s incredible glass sculpture appears to defy glass itself. Light bounces through a delightful ice-like composition.
Tocker has proven herself to be a master of the medium, as she is widely acclaimed for her unique and refined casting style of glass making. Often in her pieces, chaos meets calm, just as in nature or within ourselves. Choosing one of Di’s pieces will bring light and inspiration into your space.
