Damian takes the traditional still life to a more pared-back, more relevant artwork. The traditional composition and arranging remain, but each work, such as in Thurm III, is tagged or marked or labelled. This is a play on the traditional masters of still life….all is not as it seems. In that though, there is admiration and respect for the techniques still applied today. The charm remains, and the beauty of his works are as endearing as ever.

Damien’s compositions are restrained ‘not minimalist’ though pared back to an essence. So too are the items depicted. These objects aren’t in themselves necessarily interesting or beautiful to look at, but when you really pay attention they change. It’s like when you utter a word over and over until it changes and you hear it differently. In the same way when you look at an object over and over something else emerges.
