Kiya brings a sense of rhythm and grace to the medium of ceramics, as if she’s dancing with the clay itself. Her creations seem to breathe with life, evolving into intricate, interlocking sculptures that exude complexity yet appear effortlessly formed. Whether commanding attention as centrepieces or adding refined elegance to hall-side tables, these works are contemporary heirlooms, timeless in their appeal. ‘Cycle of Energy’ is a striking example with its composition beautifully capturing the fragile, interconnected flow of life’s endless cycles.

Energy is a constant in all of Kiya’s sculptures, especially the energy we don’t see that is constantly moving through us. Every piece created is one-off, inspired only by the freedom of her own intuition and no other external influences. Let yourself be inspired by these unconstrained forms as they move through the air. Working in ceramic and steel, Kiya’s practice is well-honed, using her signature soft curves to keep the eye flowing. She is inspired by the graceful movements of the natural world, for example the wings of a stingray as it glides through the water around Waiheke.
