Rebecca Tune was born in Auckland into a household where art was an everyday presence, shaping her creative outlook from an early age.
She is the daughter of renowned New Zealand painter Geoff Tune, and growing up surrounded by his work and artistic practice had a lasting influence on her own visual language and commitment to art.
Rebecca began her tertiary studies at the University of Auckland, where she spent two years studying art history. This academic foundation gave her a strong understanding of artistic movements, context, and critical thinking, before she transitioned into a Fine Arts degree to focus more fully on her own creative practice. After graduating, she went on to attend Teachers Training College and subsequently taught art at secondary school level for three years, further deepening her engagement with both the theory and practice of art.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has exhibited widely, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her work has been recognised with the Mt Eden Young Artist Award on four occasions, highlighting her consistency and strength as an emerging artist. She has also exhibited alongside her father, creating a meaningful dialogue between two generations of artistic practice.
