Lucy Eglington's Background
Based in Auckland, Lucy Eglington holds painting qualifications from Whitecliffe and the Browne School. She was a finalist in the 2014 Adam Portrait Awards and has exhibited at the New Zealand National Portrait Gallery. Her work is also held in collections in New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada and Dubai.
Her works will transport you to the feeling of opening a story book for the first time and uncovering a radiantly detailed depiction of an imagined folktale, filled with details to endlessly occupy your own imagination. Her scenes often depict imaginary animals interacting together that will leave you believing they co-exist in reality, they are so meaningfully portrayed.
Lucy’s paintings explore the unearthly human realms that our minds often take us such as our dreams and imagination. Working primarily in oils, her works often bring these otherworldly moments to life through the style of Romantic Realism and Renaissance painters.
In Moonraker (2021), Lucy was inspired by a romantic folktale about locals raking a pond searching for a piece of cheese that fell from the moon. For The Birds and the bees (2021), Lucy’s unnatural histories explore an imaginative world where human stories are told by the animal kingdom.
