After practising law for several years I retrained in design, following a long-held passion for all things creative. I now work as a freelancer, crafting considered design solutions for a variety of clients & holding the occasional art exhibition.
Having previously worked as a solicitor for several years, Laura Currie made the switch to a career in digital design in 2012. She founded Loveday Barnes in 2017 and now divides her time between branding and digital design work for clients and personal projects involving mixed media artwork and ceramics.
Her painting practice is very much inspired by her love of all things graphic and interior design. Her densely layered work is grounded in gestural abstraction and can be found in homes across New Zealand and the world.

Laura’s Great Great Grandmother and namesake was Loveday Laura Barnes. A diminutive yet fierce Scotswoman, Loveday immigrated to New Zealand with her young family in 1926. The studio name is a homage to her intrepid spirit and character.
