Gold and white lines circle the vessel like light caught in motion, glass built up in layers that let a deep base glow through from beneath. The form leans just off-centre, giving the piece a subtle, unsettled grace. Seen in person, the depth reveals itself slowly – colour glowing from within rather than sitting on the surface.

Originally from Australia, Madeline Prowd is a mid-career glass artist based in Whanganui, and current Manager of New Zealand Glassworks. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from ANU and trained at JamFactory, Adelaide. Fascinated by pattern making and Venetian cane work, Madeline explores light, optics and texture – elevating pattern from decoration to the very reason for making.
