A gloriously lush undergrowth rises from the canvas, rich greens and floral forms reaching upward to envelop the moon. Cosmic yet intimate, Double Vision reflects Kate’s vision of the natural world as something sacred and interconnected. A quietly urgent celebration of nature’s beauty – and our place within it.

Over the past 15 years Kate has developed a practice that has gradually evolved and refined, shaped by an increasingly focused philosophical perspective. She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from AUT in 2009 and completed a Master of Fine Arts at Elam in 2018. Her work has been selected as a finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award and the Parkin Drawing Prize.
Her paintings can be understood as portals where space and time collapse and dissolve. Rather than depicting the natural world in literal terms, the works evoke a spiritual dimension, seeking to capture its underlying essence.
With imagery that is intentionally unfocused and softly smudged, the paintings suggest that conscious perception is inherently unstable – what we think we see may be only a fragment of a deeper, more fluid reality.
