Which Art Persona Speaks to You?
Art isn’t one-size-fits-all. Neither is the way we live with it. At The Art Precinct we think about collecting through the lens of six distinct personas – and for NZ Design Week, we brought four to life on our studio walls.
When we curate a collection for a home, we’re not simply choosing works we love. We’re trying to understand how someone sees the world – what they’re drawn to, what they want to feel when they walk into a room, and what kind of story they want their art in their home to tell.
For over thirty years we’ve found that most people resonate deeply with one of six distinct ways of seeing and living with art. We call these our art personas. They’re not boxes to be ticked – many people find themselves somewhere between two – but they’re a powerful starting point for a conversation about what a collection can become.
“A persona isn’t a limit – it’s a language. Once you know yours, the collection starts to find itself.” Clare Mora – Founder, The Art Precinct
During NZ Design Week, four personas had their own wall in our studio. Here’s what was on them and why.
Contempo Feature Wall

Simple · Clean lines · Bold accents
A vibrant harmony of colours and forms designed to infuse your life with energy and joy. Abstract, colour-blocked, and botanical works interact playfully, creating a captivating visual language that makes home so inviting. This is a collection that moves – and moves you with it. The works on this wall had presence: they demanded to be looked at, and they rewarded it.

Modernista Feature Wall

Modern twist · Confident form
A collection that gives a considered nod to the modern era – where colour, subject matter, and materiality do the talking. These are collectors who find beauty in restraint – in the work that earns its place through clarity rather than complexity. There’s an intellectual rigour here, a preference for art that has something considered to say and says it without excess. The Modernista wall was quiet, but by no means timid.

Refined Feature Wall

Timeless · Considered
Within a classical home, a Refined collection radiates timeless taste – each piece chosen to stand the test of time. There’s an elegance to this persona, and a patience. These are homes where the art has been lived with, not installed. Refined transcends trends, offering a depth of richness that doesn’t date. It simply endures.

Luxe Feature Wall

Rich layers · Opulence
The Luxe collector wants art to make a statement – not for the sake of status, but because they believe in the power of presence. These are works that fill a room with feeling and a touch of sassiness. Here, quality and attitude meet sumptuousness and sophisticated confidence, showcasing artists whose work reflects a unique, uncompromising style in every corner of the home. This is a collection that knows exactly who it is – and wears it beautifully.
