Linda Gilbert is a contemporary abstract painter based in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Her work explores unseen forces such as magnetism, gravity, and ocean currents, alongside ideas of wayfinding, perception, and emotional residue. Working intuitively, Linda blends Surrealist and Visionary approaches with research into contemporary science to create energetic, layered paintings.
Linda holds a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Whitecliffe School of Art and a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Auckland University of Technology, and is a qualified barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Her work has been recognised through multiple national art award finalist selections and has been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions throughout Aotearoa.
In 2026, she will undertake an artist residency at Château d’Orquevaux in North East France, followed by research and painting in the limestone landscapes of southern France associated with Cézanne. Her practice is supported by grants from Creative New Zealand and international arts organisations, and is informed by ongoing professional development and research roles within the arts sector.
