Art for Sale by Annie McIver
The Art Precinct is proud to showcase the following for sale.
Annie McIver's Background
Annie McIver’s practice is founded in fine art, having completed a Master of Design at Unitec in 2012. Her eclectic ceramic pieces are inspired by a mix of subconscious childhood memories and unconscious dreams. Viewers will connect instantly with these dualities, as they emerge from Annie’s work in such ways as contemplative expressions.
Beyond positioning and expressions, Annie’s hand-built ceramic sculptures include objects or related figures that reveal more about the inspiration behind the work. In Girl with Wolf, the girl holds the wolf as if it is a moment in a childhood fable. In Gabrielle, a hare holds in one hand shelter and in the other hand a worker. These objects are symbols as well as clues that can only be unlocked by your own past experiences or imagination, which is what makes Annie’s work so enchanting and collectable.
In Unravelling the Threads of the Past, three hares sit together with objects to share or compare, as their ears all wispily rise above them. They could be playing, talking, working or waiting, which alludes to Annie’s interest in Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot, where the two characters search for the meaning (if any) of life.
If you are searching for an artwork to accompany you through life, Annie’s pieces will be sure to captivate you. Her pieces sit confidently within a classical interior or more eclectic setting.
On viewing Annie’s sculptures it becomes immediately clear she has built depth into her figures, as they appear to be contemplating life in their actions and expressions. Some of her figures appear to be re-enacting a dream or childhood memory, while others ponder life, perhaps also waiting for Godot.
