Fiona’s circular piece, crafted with layers of earthy-toned peacock feathers, radiates quiet strength and winter’s stillness. Viewed from afar, her mandala appears solid; up close, the intricate feather details reveal themselves. Drawing inspiration from traditional Māori kahu huruhuru, Fiona has honed this featherwork technique for over 20 years.

Fiona’s incredible mandala inspired feather works are so unique they can only be traced back to her studio, where she forages and collects local non-native birdlife to put towards each painstakingly produced artwork. While she is mostly known for her Mandala or circular forms, she has also produced even more complex Celtic knot and tartan works. Fiona’s commitment to her artform is second to none, and she is regarded as one-of-a-kind within her community, where she has respectfully learned traditional Māori cloak weaving techniques with local kuia (female elders) that form the spiritual basis of her work.
