Kiya manages to dance in the medium of ceramics. Her shapes take on a life form of their own as she works them into their incredibly complex interlocking sculptures and somehow makes that look easy. Stunning as centrepieces or incredibly stylish on hall-side tables, they are contemporary heirlooms. ‘Aqua Dynamics’ shows height through a delightful curl that seems like it is a plant taking off in new growth.

Energy is a constant in all of Kiya’s sculptures, especially the energy we don’t see that is constantly moving through us. Every piece created is one-off, inspired only by the freedom of her own intuition and no other external influences. Let yourself be inspired by these unconstrained forms as they move through the air. Working in ceramic and steel, Kiya’s practice is well-honed, using her signature soft curves to keep the eye flowing. She is inspired by the graceful movements of the natural world, for example the wings of a stingray as it glides through the water around Waiheke.
