A moment captured in the eye of the artist, producing a memory for those who have been there. Anyone who has been in the South Island of New Zealand knows the light is different magical and glowing, and producing hues that softly go from one depth to the next. While in some locations that blend the colours, here it defines them, layer upon layer – which is exactly what Alexandra creates.

Alexandra Howe
Alexandra Howe

Alexandra is inspired by the effect of the light across the landscape, the resulting mood and the feelings it evokes. A subtle change from a passing cloud or shift in time, or something more dramatic like the onset of a storm or sudden stopping of rainfall, can transform the view or feeling of the landscape. She works from her own photographs and incorporates memory, experience and response to the view. She captures and expresses the emotion of that particular time and place.
